Ireland is justifiably regarded as the one of the best places in the world to play golf. With a huge number of courses to pick from, the difficulty for visitors is often deciding which ones to leave out. Although the country boasts a fine array of parkland courses, the principal attraction for many overseas visitors is the chance to test their game on a genuine links layout.

All around the coast there are magnificent seaside venues, featuring rolling fairways set among sand dunes, perfect greens and the sort of rough that you don’t want to tangle with! Add in breathtaking sea views and sometimes even a bit of sunshine and you are close to heaven on earth for golfers of any standard.

OK, I just mentioned the weather..probably the only downside to Irish golf. But remember that without the odd bit of rain (all right, lots of rain) we wouldn’t have the lush green grass that makes golfing in Ireland such a pleasure.

Irish rain is generally what we call ‘soft’ with torrential downpours and thunderstorms a rarity, so just make sure to pack decent raingear and an umbrella and you’ll be fine. And the good news is that with our temperate climate it’s never too hot and very rarely too cold to play golf in Ireland, so you can play all year round.
